| 1. | How do I set up a league on MyFantasyLeague.com? Answer: While there are countless ways to define a fantasy league using MyFantasyLeague.com, there are a number of basic steps that all new commissioners should take. The following should be used as a guideline to help you to define much of your league's setup in a short amount of time.
1. Define the initial 2013 league parameters using the For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup
screen.
At a minimum, you'll need to define a league name, league email, password, and the number of franchises and roster spots for your league. If you plan on holding an online draft, be sure to select this (final) option. Go to our Draft How To
to determine which type of draft is right for your league.
Once you click on the Save League Setup button, the system will generate a new league for you. There's absolutely no purchase obligation for setting up a league.
NOTE: Upon completion of this step, you will be taken back to your home page. The "League Setup - Next Steps" message will appear only for the commissioner account. At the top It will include your 5-digit league ID which corresponds to the last 5 characters of your home page web address (URL). Please use this number with all correspondence to MyFantasyLeague.com support.
2. Define your franchise (team) information using the For Owners > Franchise Setup
menu item.
The first time you access this (or any other setup menu item), you will be prompted for your league password. Use the password you had defined in the General League Setup above (in step #1).
At a minimum it's a good idea to define the email addresses for all the owners in your league as soon as you can. If you don't have all the addresses now, this isn't a problem as you can always come back to this screen in the future. You might also want to define a team name for each franchise. Notice that each team will already have a system-generated password defined. You can either keep these initial random passwords or overwrite them with new passwords. Click on the Save Franchise Setup button to store all your changes.
3. Define your league's scoring rules using the For Commissioners > Setup > Scoring Setup screens.
There are a variety of ways to accomplish this task as detailed in the Scoring Setup How To
topic.
4. Define your league's fantasy schedule using the For Commissioners > Fantasy Schedule Setup screens.
Either choose a canned, system schedule from Select A Packaged Schedule
, manually define a schedule one week at a time via Weekly Schedule Setup
, re-order the weeks in an existing schedule with the Randomize Fantasy Schedule
, or swap two weeks of an existing schedule via the Switch Schedule Weeks
screen.
5. Define your league's starting lineups using the For Commissioners > Setup > Transactions Setup > Weekly Lineup Setup screen.
6. Define your league's waivers (player adds & drops) using the For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup screen.
7. Additional Setup using the many For Commissioners > Setup > Appearance Setup screens.
At this point your league is fully defined and ready to use. However, we've spent a lot of time to give you some extra bells and whistles. The majority of items used to customize the appearance of your menu are found in the Appearance Setup screens. Go to our overview on home page setup
topic to learn more.
8. Invite franchise owners to your league.
Finally, use the For Commissioners > Setup > Invite Franchise Owners screen to invite owners to your newly-created league. At this point, you can simply allow all the owners go continue their team setup individually.

| 2. | How do I set up my waivers/free agents on MyFantasyLeague.com? Answer: With all the capabilities of the MyFantasyLeague.com waiver/free agent system, setting them up can initially be a confusing task. Which system do I choose? How do I use different systems together? This "How To" page will explain the various options in detail to help make the setup and easy process.
Available Waiver Types
Enabling Waivers For Your League
FCFS Waiver Setup
Waiver Request Setup
Blind Bidding Setup
Conditional Blind Bidding Setup
Open (eBay) Bidding Setup
Separating Waivers From True Free Agents
Season-Long Rotating Waiver Order
Available Waiver Types
The first step is to understand what a 'waiver' really is. In the MyFantasyLeague.com system, a waiver is commonly (but not always) a general term for all player adds and drops. There are a variety of waiver types at your disposal (see below). In some cases, however, leagues prefer to split out waivers (aka, recently dropped players) from true free agents
. In this case the waivers can take on either the Waiver Request or Blind Bidding type while the free agent pickups are done using a FCFS method. There can only be one type of waiver defined at any point in time so not all waivers need be defined with an ending date/time (since the start of a subsequent waiver event will immediately force the end of the preceding waiver event). The primary benefit of not using an end date/time in waiver definitions is the increased owner understanding due to a less-congested League Calendar
report (and corresponding home page module).
No Waivers Allowed. Use this waiver style to prevent owners from performing any waiver moves for a portion of the waiver week. If you prefer to not allow owners to make waiver moves at any time, you should instead use the Setup > Abilities Setup
screen and uncheck all the boxes in the 'Perform Waivers' column for your owners. This will have the added effect of removing the For Owners > Waivers menu item.
First Come First Served (FCFS). This is probably the most common waiver style used. The acquisition of a new, free-agent (FA) player is based entirely on timing. If team A requests a player before team B, then team A gets the player.
Waiver Request. Unlike the FCFS method above, a waiver request method allows a league to use criteria other than time to determine how waiver will be granted. This is often used by leagues where at least some of the franchise owners are busy and cannot access the league 24x7. In the waiver request model, the commissioner defines a time for the waiver request period to end (more about this later). All franchise owners have until this time to submit their requests. For example, if a waiver request period ran until Saturday at noon, and franchise A's owner was out of town for the week, he/she would still be able to make requests for a player when he/she returned. Franchise B might also have made the request for the same players as franchise A only earlier in the week. In this case, the fact that franchise B made the waiver request BEFORE franchise A has no merit. Continuing with our example, we assume this league uses the current won-loss record for each team as the basis for awarding the waiver. If franchise A had a LOWER won-loss record than franchise B (ie, a worse record), then franchise A would be awarded the player. Note that the system also allows for at least five levels of sort criteria to handle ties.
To continue operating as fairly as possible, the waiver request model only allows each franchise the ability to acquire a single player at a time. As a result, all teams that request a unique player will receive one player before any franchise receives a second player. The term 'waiver round' is used to specify the period whereby each franchise gets a single waiver request. Since it's quite reasonable, however, that a franchise would desire more than one waiver in a given week, the commissioner can define up to eight waiver rounds. This will limit a franchise from picking up a maximum of eight new players in a given waiver window.
Combined vs. Separated Waivers/FAs. By default, the site treats a waiver request period as an event that allows owner to submit requests for *ALL* players. That is, it makes no distinction between true waiver (recently dropped players) and true free agents (not recently dropped players). Most leagues prefer this method so no additional setup change is necessary. However, some leagues prefer to truly separate the two. When this occurs, then waiver requests may only be made for players that have been recently dropped. Even in the most active leagues, this greatly reduces the number of players that may requested during a wavier request event.
In order to enable this option, leagues must go to the Setup > Waivers/Free Agents Setup screen to enable (ie, set to "yes") the setting "Allow owners to submit requests for recently dropped (or "locked") players via the "For Owners > Waivers" option, and all other players may be acquired immediately via the "For Owners > Acquire Free Agents" option?". Once enabled, waiver requests for recently dropped players are made via the For Owners > Waivers screen whereas free agent pickups are now made using the separate For Owners > Acquire Free Agents screen.
Once enabled, waivers get a bit more complex overall. Specifically, no FCFS Waiver moves will appear to be added to the League Calendar. Instead, a new "No Free Agent Moves Allowed" event appears. Initially this event is not scheduled which allows owners to always (24x7) pick up free agents. This is the one time where calendar events may overlap. Both waiver requests and free agent acquisitions may run independent of one other; they may overlap or run at separate times.
Locked Players. A locked player is unavailable to be picked up or requested in the default 'combined waivers/FAs'. However, when using a separated waiver/FA system, locked players are requested through the For Owners > Waivers screen. There are several locked player settings:
The player is not locked - (default) Select this option if you don't want recently dropped players to be locked at all. Using this option, all players (recently dropped as well as true free agents) are treated in the same way. They are all subject to your league's waiver rules. For example, if player A is a free agent and player B has been recently dropped, a league that uses a Waiver Request, Blind Bid Request, or FCFS waiver period will treat these two players in the exact same manner.
The next time waiver are processed - Choose this option to lock the recently dropped players until the next time waivers are processed (this is the most common and easiest option).
X days later - A recently dropped cannot be acquired or requested/bid on by any franchise until the specified number of days (you can also enter in a fraction of a day where 1 hour = 1/24th day = 0.0417 and 3 hours = 1/8th day = 0.0125)
A specific future date & time - A recently dropped cannot be acquired or requested/bid on by any franchise until the specified future date/time has passed.
Using any of these latter three options will allow for enabling the "Allow owners to submit requests for recently dropped players..." setting below.
Blind Bidding. This waiver type allows for each owner to place a hidden bid for players. Typically a fixed amount is given to each franchise with which to use for all bids during the season. Franchises may only spend these bidding dollars on free agents. Once the waiver period has ended, the franchise with the highest bid will be awarded the player for the amount bid. In addition to this 'standard/unconditional' blind bidding, leagues can also use a conditional blind bidding scheme whereby owners can setup multiple, prioritized blind bids.
Conditional Blind Bidding. Conditional blind bids are a lot like waiver request waiver moves, in that owners can enter multiple rounds of waiver moves, and prioritize their picks in each round. Each round's worth of requests is looked at, top to bottom, and the first bid that is considered valid is the one that the system will accept, ignoring future bids in that round. Here's a concrete example of how conditional blind bidding works, assuming franchises 1 and 2, and players A through Z, with a season-long blind bidding limit of $10, and no owners having any money spent on blind bidding.

Read as English, these bids mean:
-Franchise 1, in round 1, wants to acquire player A for a bid of $5, and drop player Z. If that bid cannot be done, he wants to acquire player B for a bid of $8, and drop player Z. Note that even though the bid for player B is higher than the bid for player A, the bid for player A is listed first, and therefore given higher priority.
-Franchise 1, in round 2, wants to acquired player C for a bid of $6, and drop player Y. If that bid cannot be done, he wants to acquire player D for a bid of $2, and drop player Y.
-Franchise 2, in round 1, wants to acquire player A for a bid of $4, and drop player X. Note that this bid does not have a second-ranked bid, so if this bid does not go through, player X will remain on franchise 2's roster.
-Franchise 2, in round 2, wants to acquire player C for a bid of $5, and drop player W. If that bid cannot go through, then he wants to acquire player D for a bid of $1, and drop player W.
On the process waivers page, the system will look at the bids, starting with the highest dollar amount top priority bid, and continue looking at bids until all are processed (either successfully, by doing the add/drop, or unsuccessfully, because the bid is considered invalid), and by default select the bid that it thinks should go through (or "None", if it considers all bids invalid).
Please also see this conditional blind bidding announcement for more detailed information.
NOTE: Do not change this setting if you have any pending blind bids. First go to the Process Waivers
screen to process the pending bids and then change this setting as needed.
MyFantasyLeague.com was not designed for "Open/EBay bidding" for free agents, and as such, we do not support or suggest that you attempt this style of waivers. Only the most dedicated commissioners will want to attempt to implement this style of waivers. If you'd like tips/tricks on how to set up Open/EBay bidding, please see our Community Forums
for suggestions from other MyFantasyLeague.com customers who have experience with the potential "gotchas" associated with Open/EBay bidding.
Enabling Waivers For Your League
| 1. | In order to allow your owners to pick up (waivers) players, you must have the For Commissioners > Setup > Abilities Setup
screen defined to allow at least one franchise the ability to 'Perform Waivers'. |
| 2. | The next step is to go to the For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup
screen to define at least one waiver (FCFS, Waiver Request, or Blind Bid) type. |
FCFS Waivers Setup
| 1. | In order to allow owners to pick up free agents whenever they desire, go to For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup
screen and create a waiver event called "First Come, First Served Waivers"" |
This example creates a FCFS waiver event starting on noon Wed, Sept. 14, and ends on Sun, Sept. 18 at kickoff (therefore FCFS waivers from noon Wed. through kickoff Sun). In addition, this event type has been repeated for 16 weeks in the season (ending with week 17's kickoff).
NOTE: 12:00 PM is noon and 12:00 AM is midnight.
Waiver Request Setup
| 1. | To define a waiver request period for your league, go to For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup
screen and define your waiver event as follows: |
In this example the Waiver Request event type has been defined to start at kickoff of each week and continue through Wednesday at Noon ET. Franchises may submit requests for free agents until this time. Once Wednesday at noon occurs, the system can auto-process or the commissioner can manually process the pending waiver requests. In this following screenshot, this Waiver Request has been added to the above FCFS event type:

| 2. | (Optionally) Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Waivers Setup > Waiver Request Setup
screen to specify custom waiver request-related parameters. |
Blind Bidding Setup
| 1. | Use the For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup screen to define your waiver event type as follows: |

In this example Blind Bidding waivers will start at kickoff and continue through Wednesday at Noon ET. Franchises may submit hidden bids for free agents until this time. Once Wednesday at noon occurs, the site by default will auto-process all pending bids. Alternately, the commissioner may manually process the pending bids via the For Commissioners > Process Waivers
screen (auto-processing should be enabled in the Blind Bidding Waivers Setup
screen). In this following screenshot, this Blind Bidding Waiver type has been joined with the above FCFS event type:

| 2. | (Optionally) Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Waivers Setup > Blind Bidding Waivers Setup
screen to specify custom blind bid-related parameters. |
Conditional Blind Bidding Setup
For the most part, the setup for conditional blind bidding is the same as for blind bidding (above). The one exception being that the commissioner must enable the "Are Conditional Blind Bids Allowed?" setting on the Blind Bidding Waivers Setup
screen.
Separating Waivers from True Free Agents
While most league prefer to treat all non-roster players as free agents, some leagues would rather have recently dropped players defined as "waivers" and all other non-roster players termed "free agents". For these leagues, the site offers the ability to separate the two.
| 1. | Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Waivers Setup > Waivers/Free Agents Setup screen and specify how to handle recently dropped players. You must define one of the latter three options (anything other than "The player is not locked") to support the separation of waivers from true free agents. |
| 2. | Now that you've chosen to support locked players, you must also specify that you want these players treated differently than true free agents for your league. On this same screen, enable the second setting to separate the two (by default it's disabled). |

| 3. | (Optionally) limit the number of waiver (Waiver Request and Blind Bidding Request) moves per season and/or per week as well as the number of free agent (FCFS) moves per season and/or per week. |
| 4. | At this point you've completed the steps necessary to separate waivers from true free agents. However, your league still needs to define the various times in which you would like to allow for waiver requests and/or blind bidding requests for your waivers as well as when you want to allow FCFS times for your free agents. To do this, you must use the For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup
screen. |

Unlike the default combined waivers/free agents where the league has but one waiver period (waiver request, blind bid, FCFS, or no waivers allowed), separating the waivers from free agents requires that two separate and overlapping events occur. For recently dropped players/waivers, leagues must define the "Waiver Request", "Blind Bidding Waivers", and the "No Waivers Allowed" event type. For true free agents, leagues must define the "No Free Agent Moves Allowed" event type (when not defined, the default is to allow FCFS pickups for all true free agents).
| 5. | Define your Waiver event. For example from above (see #1), we want to allow recently dropped players to be placed on waivers for 2 days. We will allow this these players to be bid on starting at Tuesday at noon and ending at Saturday at noon. At this end time, the site will auto-process these waiver requests and award them to the owners based on the current waiver sort criteria defined in the For Commissioners > Setup > Waivers Setup > Waiver Request Setup
screen). |
| 6. | Define your Free Agent event. In our example, assume that we want to allow for free agent pickups also starting on Tuesday at noon, but we'll allow owners to continue to pick them up through Sunday's kickoff. The system by default allows free agent pickups during the entire week. If your league uses this method then you need not do anything else. However, in our example, we explicitly do not want free agent acquisitions between Sunday's kickoff and Tuesday at noon (to simply things, we will also treat the weeks prior to and after Thanksgiving Day the same as all other weeks). |
| 7. | The resulting calendar for the month of September, 2008 looks like this: |
Season-Long Rotating Waiver Order
| 2. | Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Waivers Setup > Waiver Request Setup
screen to enable the season-long rolling order. |
| 3. | At the start of the season (or any other time that the order needs to modified), the commissioner needs to use the For Commissioners > Setup > Waivers Setup > Custom Waiver Order Setup screen to initialize the order. |
From this point on, any time that an owner successfully adds a player to his roster via a "Waiver Request" (but not FCFS or blind bidding) waiver move (regardless if that waiver request is manually processed by the league commissioner via the For Commissioners > Process Waivers page, or via automatic waiver processing), that owner will move to the bottom of the list, having the lowest priority for the next set of waiver request moves.
NOTE: Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Appearance Setup > Home Page Setup screen to add the "Waiver Wire Order" home page module to have your waiver order displayed on your league's home page for all owners to see. Also note that deluxe
leagues have the displayed wire separated by conference or division as needed.

| 3. | How do I set up a keeper/dynasty league draft on MyFantasyLeague.com? Answer: If you have a keeper or dynasty league where some or all players on rosters are carried over from year to year, there is a certain sequence of events that you will need to go through to prepare for your league for the new season on MyFantasyLeague.com. This How To guide will walk you through those steps.
IF YOU HAD A LEAGUE WITH US IN 2012
1. From your 2012 league home page, log in as the league commissioner, and click on the commissioner home page message link to upgrade your league to a 2008 league. Log into this new 2008 league as Commissioner.
2. Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Players and Rosters - Transfer Rosters screen and check the checkbox next to each player that should be transferred from the 2012 end-of-season rosters. This will move those players onto each owner's active roster for your 2012 league, and make those players un-draftable for your 2008 league.
If your League Chooses to Run an Online Draft:
3. Go to your 2008 league is set up to hold an on-line draft by going to your For Commissioner > General League Setup
page and make sure that the “At the start of the season, rosters are determined by:” option is set to one of the first two"On-line draft”; settings (email or live).
4. Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Order Setup - All Rounds
and Draft Order Setup - One Round
to define your overall 2008 draft order.
Do not use the Draft Order Setup - One Round option to manually account for future draft pick trades as these will be automatically accounted for when importing your traded picks.
5. If you had a 2012 league with us, and allowed owners to trade future year draft picks in 2012, go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup - Import Future Draft Pick Trades option to have the system automatically update your 2008 draft order based on the actual 2012 draft pick trades. Note that it is important that you do this step BEFORE letting owners actively trade on the site, as otherwise there will be confusion due what looks like duplicate listings of draft picks on your For Owners > Trades.
6. Selecting Keepers:
Once your rosters are transferred and you have enabled an option on the For Commissioner > General League Setup to determine your rosters you will then select your keepers.
To allow owners to select their keepers for your league you will need to do the following.
- Go to the Setup > Keepers Setup screen and define your minimum and maximum values for your keepers.
- Once you've set up keeper requirements, you will need to go to the Setup > League Calendar Setup page to set up a “Select Keepers” system event in which owners can select their keepers. You will need both a start and end date for this event.
- During this time, owners may go to the Reports > Franchise > Keepers page to declare their keepers. At the end of the Keeper event, owners will be able to see all selected keepers by all owners on this page.
- Then, as commissioner, you will need to process these keepers once the event is complete by going to the Setup Select Keepers . The screen will display the players selected by each owner. As commissioner you will simply process these keeper requests for your owners. Any players not selected will be dropped from the roster.
You will have the option to place these players “in lieu of” a draft pick if you choose to run an online draft and have your Draft Order defined. For example, if your league rules dictate that an owner can keep up to three players, in lieu of their first 3 rounds of draft picks, when the commissioner loads the keepers onto the rosters at the beginning of the season, he may indicate what draft pick the owner has given up for that keeper player. Once the commissioner has completed the “select keepers” step, the system will automatically update the draft report to indicate the keeper players in their appropriate slot, and also automatically skip over that pick when it comes up in your draft.
To have the Commissioner select keepers for the league:
- Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Players and Rosters - Select Keepers screen to specify which players should be retained on each franchise roster. Any players not selected will be dropped from the roster. If the 2008 draft has been defined, you can optionally define the specific draft pick taken by each keeper player.
7. Finally, make sure that all of your other draft settings in the For Commissioners > Setup - Draft Setup screens are correct for your league draft, and then you'll be all ready to start your draft.
IF YOU ARE NEW TO MFL IN 2008
1. Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Players and Rosters > Load/Unload Rosters page, and indicate what players initially should be put on what rosters for each franchise. This will make those players un-draftable for your 2008 league.
If your League Chooses to Run an Online Draft:
2. Go to your 2008 league is set up to hold an on-line draft by going to your For Commissioner > General League Setup
page and make sure that the “At the start of the season, rosters are determined by:” option is set to one of the first two "On-line draft”; settings (email or live).
3. Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Order Setup - All Rounds
and Draft Order Setup - One Round
to define your overall 2008 draft order.
If you had traded draft picks in your previous site you can use the For Commissioners > Setup >
Draft Order Setup - One Round
to edit the individual picks/rounds to account for these traded picks.
5. Finally, make sure that all of your other draft settings in the For Commissioners > Setup - Draft Setup screens are correct for your league draft, and then you'll be all ready to start your draft.

| 4. | How do I define my league's starting lineup requirements? Answer: Setting the Correct Position Requirements
Each week in the fantasy season your team owners will need to define a subset of their overall roster players to be used as their weekly starting lineup players. The first step necessary to allow for this is to define the overall number of player each team may start each week and the various position restrictions imposed on these starters. To accomplish this task, go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Players & Rosters > Starting Lineups Setup
screen.
| 1. | Define the Head Coaches. |
Specify the number of starting coaches for each fantasy team. Most league's do not use coaches, but they are available. Define either a single discrete number or a range for your starting Coaches.
| 2. | Choose & Define QB/TMQB. |
First, you must define if your league will be using individual QB or Team QB (it's extremely unlikely that you would ever use both at the same time). If your league drafts Peyton Manning (starting QB, IND) for example, then you should define the 'Quarterback (QB)' field. Most leagues only start one QB here, but you can define more as needed. If your league instead prefers to draft a Team QB, them instead use the 'Team Quarterback (QB)' field. In a TMQB environment, if Peyton Manning got injured and Jim Sorgi (backup QB, IND) had to take over, the fantasy team that drafted the IND TMQB would automatically receive Sorgi's points too. In effect, by using the TMQB, a team is drafting all of the pro team's quarterbacks and will receive fantasy points regardless of which player is actually playing.
The next sections of this screen allows you to define the RB, WR, and TE lineup positions for your league. If you do not use a position, it's best to just leave the field blank.
| 3. | Choose & Define RBs, WRs, & TEs. |
After the QB position, the next most common set of positions include the RB, WR, and TE. The site presents you with three separate ways to define these based on your league's needs. You can select...
| a. | a fixed number of RBs, WRs, and TEs. This is the strictest setting as it requires you to define each position individually. Note, however, that you can define either a single, discrete value (ie, "2" to start two RBs) or you can define a range (ie, "2-3" to start at least two, but no more than three RBs). Use the RB, WR, and TE rows for this setting. |
| b. | a fixed number of RBs, and a fixed number of receivers (WRs + TEs). This option is designed for leagues that combine the WR and TE position without concern for how many of each a team may start. as above, you can define a single, discrete value (ie, "3" to start three WRs+TEs) or you can define a range (ie, "2-3" to start at least two, but no more than three WRs+TEs). Even if you use this setting, you MUST still define TE rules for your league in order to have the TE players score correctly. Use the RB and WR+TE rows for this setting. |
| c. | a more flexible lineup (RBs, WRs, and TEs). This final option is the most flexible in that you can define a single number or range (as above) to be used for the combination of RB, WR, and TE starters. Use only the RB+WR+TE row for this setting. |
NOTE: If your league considers WRs and TEs to be one and the same, there is no need to use the change player position page to manually change all WRs to TEs. Simply choosing one of the WR+TE combined positions above will automatically enforce this rule for you, and there will be no need for any extra work on your part.
Specific vs. Flex Lineups
While most leagues typically use a specific number of starters at each position, some leagues prefer to offer a range. For example, instead of the specific requirements to start 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 TE, some leagues may add another player of any RB/WR/TE. While one owner could start 3 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 TE, another might start 2 RBs, 3 WRs, and 1 TE, while yet another would start 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 2 TEs. This is setup as follows:
RB: min=2, max=3
WR: min=2, max=3
TE: min=1, max=2
There's still no way to start more than the six players at these positions (this is constrained by the Total Starters option above) as well as at least 2 RBs, 2 WRs, and 1 TE. Another common example using individual defensive players (IDPs) is to start up to three at any of DL/LB/DB. Define these positions as follows:
DL: min=0, max=3
LB: ,min=0, max=3
DB: min=0, max=3
Here, one owner could start one player at each position while another could start three DBs.
| 4. | Optionally define Fullbacks and Kick Returners. |
Define the FB position ONLY if you league requires fullbacks to be used independently of running backs. Use the KR position ONLY if your league defines some players to score points only when they are returning kickoffs and punts. If you prefer to allow all WRs, DBs, etc. that return kicks & punts to also receive other points (ie, WRs for receptions, etc.), then do not use this option. Instead, just define Kickoff and Punt Return scoring rules to the WR position.
When using either of these positions, the commissioner must manually change individual players via the Change Player Position
screen as needed (to FBs or KRs).

| 5. | Choose & Define PKs/TMPKs. |
Next, you must define if your league will be using individual PKs or Team PKs (as in the QB decision above, it's extremely unlikely that you would ever use both at the same time). If your league drafts Jason Elam (PK, DEN) then you should define the 'Place Kicker (PK)' field. Most leagues only start one PK here, but you can define more as needed. If your league instead prefers to draft a Team PK, them instead use the 'Team Place Kicker (TMPK)' field. In a TMPK environment, if Jason Elam was injured and his backup had to take over, the fantasy team that drafted the DEN TMPK would automatically receive the backup's points too. In effect, by using the TMPK, a team is drafting all of the pro team's kickers and will receive fantasy points regardless of which player is actually playing.
| 6. | Optionally define PNs/TMPNs. |
You can similarly define Punters (PN) or Team Punters (TMPN) as needed by your league. Most leagues do not use punters, but they are available.

| 7. | Define the DTs/Des/TMDLs. |
Specify the number of starting defensive linemen (both defensive ends and defensive tackles) for each fantasy team or Team DLs. Most league's do not use DLs (opting instead to use the Def position), but they are available. As always, define either a single discrete number or a range.
Specify the number of starting linebackers for each fantasy team or Team Lbs. Most league's do not use Lbs (opting instead to use the Def position), but they are available. As always, define either a single discrete number or a range.
Specify the number of starting defensive backs (both cornerbacks and safeties) for each fantasy team or Team DBs. Most league's do not use DBs (opting instead to use the Def position), but they are available. As always, define either a single discrete number or a range.
| 10. | Optionally Define the Total Number of IDPs. |
If your league uses both flex offensive players and flex defensive players, then you should define this field as the total number of independent defensive players (IDPs) for your weekly lineups. This will prevent a team owner from substituting an extra IDP for a higher scoring IOP.
| 10. | Define the Defensive (or Combined) Teams. |
Enable and define this field if your league uses a separate defensive team OR a combined defensive team + special teams position. For the latter, just define both Def-type (such as Total Yards Against) and ST-type (such as Punt Return Yardage) rules to the Def position. The only leagues that typically do not use this are those that instead use individual defensive players (IDPs). A single number or range is again supported.
| 11. | Define the Offensive Teams. |
Specify the number of starting (pro) offensive teams for each fantasy team. Most league's do not use the Off position, but it is available. As always, define either a single discrete number or a range for your starting Offensive team.
| 12. | Define the Special Teams. |
Only define this field if your league uses a separate special teams position. For leagues that combine the ST with the Defensive Team, use the setting above. A single number or range is again supported.
| 13. | Define the Number of Weekly Starters. |
In the first section, you are required to define the overall number of starter for each franchise each week.
NOTE: This number must equal the sum of all the individual position starters defined in the remainder of this page.
Specify How To Support Missing Lineups
On occasion a team owner may not be able to submit his weekly lineup. A common practice is to address this by copying that team's previous lineup for the current week. By default, lineups are not automatically copied over, however you can check and of the boxes to enable this for your league. If unchecked, a team that does not submit a lineup for a given week will score zero fantasy points.
As Soon As The Previous Week's Final Results Are Available: - When checked, this option will automatically carry everyone's lineup through to the following week as soon as the previous week's results are finalized (typically late Monday night).
As Soon As Preliminary (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) Results Are Available: - Select this option to automatically have all lineups resolved for owners who did not submit lineups by the first game of the above preliminary day.
As Soon As Final (Monday) Results Are Available: - Select this option to automatically have all lineups resolved for owners who did not submit lineups for the week.
See the For Commissioners > Setup > Players & Rosters > Starting Lineup Setup screen for more information.
Define When Weekly Lineups Are Due
The system supports a variety of ways to define when a weekly starting lineup is due. These options get set using the For Commissioners > Setup > Transactions Setup > Weekly Lineup Setup
screen.
There are four different ways to set the time in which each franchise owner must have their weekly lineup submitted.
This option requires that the entire weekly starting lineup be defined by the start time of the earliest game during the week. For most weeks this will be the early Sunday game, however, there are a few weeks that start with either a Thursday or Saturday game. See the 2008 NFL Schedule for more information on when the early games occur.
This setting requires all players in early (Thursday, Friday, or Saturday) games to be started/benched at the kickoff of their individual game. All other players must be started/benched at the start of the first game on Sunday. By using this setting the playing status (started or benched) of all players in early games will be locked at the kickoff of that player's game. As a result, not actively starting an early player is the same as actively benching that same player (unless no lineup is submitted and the league allows lineups to be copied over from the previous week). He cannot be started at a later time.
Each player must be started or benched by the kickoff of their respective pro game. While this is by far the most flexible of all options, franchise owners need to be aware of when each player on their roster plays each week. It's easy to not start some players in the early games only to realize (too late) that there are no other players at a given position to start in the late games.
All players must be submitted based on the custom-defined For Commissioners > Setup > League Calendar Setup
screen. NOTE: When using this setting, be sure to adjust as needed based on the 2008 NFL Schedule.

| 5. | How do I set up my league's scoring system? Answer:
Setting Up Your Scoring System
MyFantasyLeague.com offers a number of ways for you to define your scoring rules for your league. You can do any of the following:
1. Use our Online Scoring System Setup utility to define your league rules.
Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Scoring Setup > Custom Scoring System Setup
screen.
2. Use one of the many 'standard' scoring rule sets that have been defined.
Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Scoring Setup > Select A Packaged Scoring System
screen and select one of the following:
| • | Copy league scoring rules from this 2008 League ID: xxxxx |
3. Use our offline FFLM configuration utility to define your league rules and then upload the results to your online league.
In order to utilize this tool, please perform the following steps:
1. Download* the install file to your PC's hard drive. Click here: FFLM
Version 9.0 (2/1/2009)
2. Run the downloaded file (fflmsetup.exe) on your PC to install the setup tool.
3. Double-click on the new FFLM icon on your desktop to run the setup tool program.
4. Create a new league (File > New League) or open an existing FFLM league (File > Open League).
5. Create the customized scoring rules data for your league.
6. Go to File > Exchange With MyFantasyLeague... to enter your 5-digit league ID, commissioner password, and click on the Verify League & Password button.
7. Click on the Export tab, then the "Transfer the Scoring Rules" button to upload your custom rules to your MyFantasyLeague.com league.
*Note: Mac & Web-TV users cannot use this PC-based program.
4. Send an email to our technical support department to have them define your scoring rules for your league.
In order to have us define your 2008 MFL scoring rules for your league, please ensure the following:
1. You have placed your order for your 2008 online league using the $$Purchase League$$ option on your home page. This option will disappear from 'For Commissioners' menu once your league has been purchased.
2. You've gone to For Commissioners > Setup > Players & Rosters > Starting Lineup Setup
and verified that you've properly chosen the correct scoring positions for your league.
3. You know your 5-digit league ID for 2008 (the last 5 digits of your home page web address/URL).
4. You have verified that your rules are supported
.
5. You have FINALIZED your scoring rules with your league. Please do not send us a request if your league might want to make changes in the near future.
6. You have defined your list of rules in a format similar to this SAMPLE
Once you've met the above criteria, please contact us via our online support form with your formatted rules. We'll update them for you within five (5) days.
Testing Your Scoring System
When your league's rules have been defined, the system flags your league to calculate your defined scoring rules against the 2008 statistical data. Depending on when you complete the rules, this process may take up to a few hours. Check on the results by using the Reports > Players > Top Performers/Player Stats
report for your league.
Now you can click on any of the links corresponding to the weekly points for a given player. For example, by clicking on the "24" for Payson Manning's week 1 point total, the system will explode this total into the specific rules and points as shown below:
From this you can determine that he scored 12 points for 256 yards passing, 12 points for 2 TDs thrown, 1 point for 18 rushing yards, and -1 point for a single interception thrown. Hopefully this is exactly what you expect to find. If it isn't, go to the Reports > Rules > League Scoring report to determine how your rules are actually defined:
In this example, the QB is awarded 1 points for every 20 yards passing. For 256 (from 240-259) yards, he receives exactly 12 points. Note that the other point awards checks out as well.
Repeat this process with multiple players at every position to ensure that your rules are, in fact, defined exactly the way you want them to be defined. A little extra effort before the season starts might save you unnecessary frustration if you have to determine why the points are off in week 1 for your league.
Statistics Lifecycle & Special Plays
On occasion, an statistics and/or scoring issue might arise that is less than clear for your league. For this reason we've created a couple of documents to aid in how MyFantasyLeague works with statistics, stat changes, special plays and other related information.
Statistics Lifecycle
- review this document to learn about live scoring results, preliminary & final weekly results, official NFL stat changes, and an overview of special plays.
Special Plays - read this document to learn how MyFantasyLeague.com scores unique plays that your league may not have addressed in your league scoring.

| 6. | How do I decide what draft is right for my league? Answer: MyFantasyLeague.com offers a variety of ways to assist your league in holding it's draft. Understanding all of the options and when they are best used can be very helpful to your league's draft experience. There are three primary drafting scenarios available to you with MyFantasyLeague.com.
1. Offline draft without a PC.
2. Offline draft with a PC.
3. Online draft.
Drafts can also be broken down by physical location.
A. All your league members get together in one place to hold the draft.
B. Most of your league members are in one location with a few 'outsiders'
C. Most (all) of your league members are geographically separated.
While there are no strict requirements preventing you from using any scenario (1-3) with any location (A-C), the following are the preferred options:
Physical Location
|
Drafting Scenario Recommended
|
|
|
|
A (all together)
|
2 (offline draft w/ a PC), 1 (offline draft w/o a PC)
|
B (most together, few outsiders)
|
2 (offline draft w/ a PC) or 3 (online draft)
|
C (most/all in separate locations)
|
3 (online draft)
|
Now that you've determined the best draft for your league, the next step it to understand exactly how to prepare for it.
1. Offline draft without a PC
. In this low-tech approach where all members are together for the draft, one person simply records all the picks on paper. At the completion of the draft, the commissioner must use the For Commissioners > Setup > Load/Unload Rosters option to manually enter in each team's draft picks.
Pros:
|
Draft can be held anywhere (no PC required)
|
|
|
No prep work necessary
|
Cons:
|
Most manual labor required (double entry of picks)
|
|
|
Greatest risk of error
|
|
|
Does not support a Draft Report
|
2. Offline draft with a PC
. Similar to #1 above, this scenario adds a single PC (which does not need to be connected to the Internet during the draft). Download & setup the FFLM program
as the commissioner can hold the draft offline. Once completed, the draft order and results can easily be exported to an online league. NOTE: There's no charge to use FFLM in the preseason for drafting.
Pros:
|
Draft can be held most places (need a laptop/PC)
|
|
|
Offers a quick, interactive way to hold your draft
|
|
|
Draft not subject to slow periods just prior to the season
|
|
|
No need to manually record the draft picks twice
|
Cons:
|
More work to setup up
|
|
|
Requires a PC be available during the draft
|
3a. Online draft with MFL
. This fully Internet-based draft requires each owner to have access to an Internet-connected PC. (Owners without Internet access can still contact the commissioner to have him/her enter their picks). The draft can either be run in a few hours (using the live draft) or over several days.
Pros:
|
Quick, easy
|
|
|
No double recording of picks
|
|
|
Owners can be located anywhere
|
Cons:
|
All (most) owners need a PC with Internet access
|
Detailed Steps for Offline Draft without a PC
(Before the draft)
| 1. | Go to For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup and define the option "At the start of the season, rosters are determined by" to use the "None of the above - commissioner will use the Load Rosters option to load franchise rosters." setting. |
(During the draft)
2. Bring paper and pen (or similar) to the draft.
3. Record each pick as it occurs for the entire draft.
(After the draft)
4. Go to your league home page and select For Commissioners > Setup > Load/Unload Rosters.

5. Choose a franchise from the pull-down list.

| 6. | Select all the players for the chosen franchise. You can either highlight the players in the left-hand window and click on the 'Add To List>' button or you can copy/paste/type in the player names in the free-form text box below. When finished, you MUST click on the Load/Unload Rosters button to actually add these selected players to the chosen roster. |

| 7. Repeat steps #5 and #6 for each franchise. | |
Detailed Steps for Offline Draft with a PC
(Before the draft)
| 1. | Go to For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup and define the option "At the start of the season, rosters are determined by" to use the "Off-line, live draft, that happens all at once, taking a matter of hours to complete, using FFLM

14. Click on the Export tab.
15. Click on the Transfer the Draft Results button to transfer your league's draft picks. NOTE: You can only upload the draft results once. Also, be sure to ONLY transfer the Draft Results. Do not transfer the Rosters or use any of the other options on the Export tab, since all of that information is already setup in MyFantasyLeague.com.
Detailed Steps for Online Draft
(Before the draft)
1. Use the For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup
screen to specify an online, MFL (email or live) draft.

2. Go to your league home page and use the For Owners > Basic (or Advanced) Franchise Setup
option to define individual team names.

3. Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup > Draft Start Date/Time Setup
screen to define the time in which your first draft pick *may* be made. You draft can, but does not have to start at this exact time. It cannot start before this time. NOTE: If you don't see the Draft Setup screens, you will have to go to General League Setup
to enable one of the 'online draft' settings.

4. Define your draft rounds & order on the Draft Order Setup - All Rounds
screen.

NOTE: If your league requires a completely customized draft you may need to use the FFLM setup program (see Detailed Steps for Offline Draft with a PC
section above).
5. (Optional) You may also want to define some of the settings found in the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup > Draft Timer Setup
screen.

6. Go to Reports > Fantasy League Reports > Draft Report
to verify your draft order.
7. All owners must use the For Owners > Draft
option to enter the draft room. For the live draft screen, click on the "Live Draft" link located at the top of the Draft screen.
(During the draft)
8. Go to Reports > Fantasy League Reports > Draft Report
to verify your draft order.

(After the draft)
There's nothing required after the draft as all players are automatically added to the correct roster immediately.

| 7. | How do I prepare for a live draft on MyFantasyLeague.com? Answer: So, you're considering running your "live draft" via the MyFantasyLeague.com web site? Great! Since your live draft is one of the most important parts of the season, it's essential that you do a little preparation for running your draft on-line, to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. Therefore, we strongly encourage you read and understand all of the following potential "gotchas" related to running your live draft on the MyFantasyLeague.com site.
| 1. | First, determine if a MFL live on-line draft is really what you want to do. |
We recommend live drafts on MyFantasyLeague.com only for leagues that want to conduct a draft all at once, where the owners are geographically separated (i.e., not all together in the same room). If all owners are together in one room, or, you'd like to conduct your draft in a more "slow" email-type fashion, we do not recommend the use of the live draft feature. For a more detailed explanation, please visit our Commissioner Tutorials > How do I decide what draft is right for my league? page.
| 2. | Next, make sure your draft is set up properly. |
| c. | Have owners traded draft picks before the draft, and those draft picks are not yet reflected on your league Draft Reports? If so, you can make those kinds of changes to your draft order via the For Owners > Trades option to be able to trade draft picks between owners. |
| d. | Are owners set up to be allowed to go into "live draft" mode? Go to your For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup page - make sure that the "At the start of the season, rosters are determined by:" option is set to "On-line, "live" draft that happens all at once, taking a matter of hours to complete." |
| e. | Is your draft timer set up properly? Also in the General Draft & Timer Setup page - look and see what the "Turn Draft Timer:", "Set Timer To:" and "When the timer expires:" options are set to - make sure that they properly reflect your league rules regarding how long an owner can be "on the clock" for, and what happens when that time limit expires. |
| 3. | Next, make sure all owners understand the "pre-draft" feature and the "My Draft List" feature on the MyFantasyLeague.com site. |
The "pre-draft" feature on the site was designed mainly for long-running email-type drafts, but at times it can be helpful for live drafts, too. The most important thing to understand about this feature is the following:
Any pre-draft picks submitted by an owner will be selected as soon as it's that owner's turn to pick for that given pick of the draft. In other words, if you have submitted pre-draft picks for round 2 of your draft, as soon as the team before you in round 2 picks in your draft, the system will go through your pre-draft list at that time (even if you're actively logged into the draft!) and make your pick for you.
If an owner has to step away from his computer for a moment for whatever reason during a live draft, he may want to pre-draft for an upcoming round or two so as to not hold up the draft while he is away, so the system can automatically make his picks for him.
The "My Draft List
" feature allows owners to set up a personal draft list for picks, without automatically having those picks made as soon as the team is on the clock. It should be thought of as more of a personally-defined draft guide.
| 4. | Next, make sure all owners understand the "draft tracker" feature on the MyFantasyLeague.com site. |
The "draft tracker" feature was designed to make a pick for an absent owner. Using rules described in the "How The Draft Tracker Picks Players" section below, owners that allow the timer to expire may be able to have the system make an intelligent pick (based on other 2008 completed drafts) on their behalf.
| 5. | Next, make sure all owners log into the live draft chat room to get a feel for exactly how this live draft will work. |
This is probably the most important step of all - all owners need to at least experiment with the live draft pages a little bit before the start of your live draft to make sure that they don't have any problems accessing those pages from their computer, and get a general feel for how things work before your draft actually starts. Otherwise, you may well spend the first half-hour or more of your draft just making sure everyone is logged on properly, and understand what they need to do on the site.
| 6. | Finally, understand what to do in case of unexpected problems during your live draft. |
For an important real-time event like a live draft, if things go wrong, they can snowball in a hurry. You need to be sure that even after you've done all of the above important steps, you consider the following.
| a. | When the commissioner accesses the live draft screen, the lower window offers a set of 'Commissioner Controls' including: |
Pause Timer - use this to stop the timer in a live draft. Once clicked, this will remove the countdown timer from the live draft page.
Reset Timer - use this item to reset a timer (that may or may not have been previously paused) to the max per-pick timer value.
Skip Pick - click on this link to advance the draft by one pick without making a selection for the current pick.
Undo Last Pick - select this item to revert the draft by a single pick. You can also use item "b" below to undo multiple picks quickly.
Clear Above Messages - click on this link to clear out the entire chat message history for all owners. Once cleared, this information cannot be restored.
| b. | If someone (or the system) makes a pick that you'd like to "undo", you can do that by going to the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup > Revert Draft screen to "back up" your draft to any point in the past, and then continue drafting. Note that after doing a "Revert Draft", everyone in the league must refresh their entire live draft page to see the updated draft results. This is especially useful if several picks were made in error. See also item "a" above (Undo Last Pick) to easily revert a single pick. |
| c. | In some cases it might be easier to just change a draft pick (ie, an owner made an obvious mistake). Use the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup > Change Draft Pick screen to adjust any single pick in the draft. These adjustments will include the text "Replacement pick made by Commissioner" in the comments column of the draft report. After doing a "Change Draft Pick", everyone in the live draft room mush refresh the live draft page to see the updated draft results. |
| d. | When a pick just needs to be skipped for any reason, use the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup > Skip Draft Pick page. Skipped picks will include the text "Pick Skipped By Commissioner" in the comments column of the draft report. |
| c. | If you find that people are having problems getting access to your live draft, and the system is still advancing your draft due to the timer expiring, the first thing you should do is turn off your draft timer via the For Commissioners > Setup > Draft Setup > Draft Timer Setup page for a round or two until everything smooths out a little, and then turning it back on. |
| d. | Sometimes, owners may have unanticipated computer problems, Internet connection problems, personal emergencies, etc. that cause the best laid plans to go to awry. Do you have a backup plan in place in case any unforeseen problems occur? |
| e. | If you have other problems that you can't immediately solve, please use the Help >Help Center option available from all league pages - that page goes over in detail all of the options you have available to you for getting further assistance for your draft problems. |
In conclusion, we know that your live draft on the MyFantasyLeague.com site will be a great success, but to ensure it's success, you need to follow these important instructions above!
IMPORTANT NOTES:
| • | While it's possible to run a live draft without the league commissioner present in the live draft room, we strongly recommend that a league commissioner be present at all times for a live draft. The "Commissioner Controls" mentioned above are essential for recovering from problems that might happen during the course of a live draft - without a commissioner present, no one will be able to pause the draft timer, undo draft picks, or any of the other sometimes necessary commissioner options mentioned above. This situation becomes extremely difficult to manage for deluxe leagues that hold multiple drafts at the same time. |
| • | If pick 1.01 has been pre-drafted, and the draft timer is on, the draft will start as soon as the Draft Start Time passes. However, if pick 1.01 has not been pre-drafted, then the timer does not actually start until the franchise owner of pick 1.01 actively makes his/her selection. This has been done to allow all owners extra time to get into the live draft. |
| • | In some circumstances, all owners may have to use the "Refresh" button on their web browser to get an up-to-date live draft page. If any of the following events happens in your live draft, "Refreshing" your live draft page will bring it back up-to-date: Commissioner does a "Change Draft Pick", commissioner changes the draft timer length on the "Draft Timer Setup" page, or owners trade draft picks in the middle of a live draft (or, anything else along these lines that causes the draft order to change in the middle of a live draft). |
| • | If there will be two different franchise owners at one computer during a live draft, you might be tempted to let each owner "take turns" at the computer, logging on and logging off of the site between picks. We strongly discourage you from taking this approach, as it will lead to a lot of confusion and delays in your draft. Instead, we recommend installing two different web browsers on the computer (Firefox - available at http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/
is an excellent [and free!] web browser) - then, one owner can remain logged into the site using each browser, so they only need to take turns at the keyboard, and they will not continually log in and log out of the site when it's their turn to pick. |
| • | If a majority of franchise owners are at one computer with a few located elsewhere - AND - an online MFL draft has been defined, have the commissioner login to make all the picks for the group of owners as the constant login-pick-logout for each team would be too cumbersome and interfere with your online draft. |
| • | Here's a detailed scenario from a customer who reported unexpected live draft problems, even though they thought they had completely prepared for their live draft. In their testing of the live draft room, they did it with one laptop computer on a wireless network. When their real live draft started, there were many laptops on that same wireless network, which completely overwhelmed the network's bandwidth, effectively grinding their live draft to a halt. The solution to the problem? Only have one commissioner use his laptop for the live draft, entering everyone's picks as they happened. |
| • | Since the league chat feature is per league, and live drafts for deluxe leagues are per division or per conference, the chat module displayed in the live draft will display all league chat messages, and not just the chat messages associated with the current deluxe league division/conference draft, which might cause some confusion if multiple drafts for a deluxe league are happening at the same time.
|
How The Draft Tracker Picks Players
| 1. | Look at league's starting lineup requirements. Look at franchise's current roster. If there are any holes in the current roster that prevents the owner from submitting a complete starting lineup, get a list of those positions that the franchise needs. If franchise can submit a complete starting lineup already, look at all positions. |
| 2. | Look at current draft tracker results. Given how many drafts are collated there, determine a cutoff - the cutoff is the minimum number of drafts that a player has to be drafted in to be looked at (otherwise, he'll just be ignored). This prevents players that were drafted in only a few leagues, but happened to be drafted very high, from being assigned to a franchise. The cutoff starts out at 5% of the total number of drafts. For example, if there are currently 150 drafts in the draft tracker, the system will only look at players who have been picked in 8 or more drafts |
| 3. | The system takes up to 4 passes over all draft tracker results in order to try to pick a player for you. In the first pass, it tries to fill a starting lineup need looking at only players that we drafted in the above cutoff number of drafts. If no players were found in the first pass, it halves the number of drafts for the cutoff, and looks again. If no players were found in the second pass, it halves the number of drafts for the cutoff again, and looks again. Finally, if no players were found in the third pass, it ignores the starting lineup needs, and looks for any player that was drafted in at least the lowest cutoff number of drafts, and looks again. |
The most important take-home message from this long explanation is that draft tracker picks were originally designed for (and are still intended for) a "last-ditch, if all else fails, for some reason the owner (or someone else) messed up and didn't make his pick, so let me make what might be an appropriate pick" kind of situation, and definitely not a "make the same pick that a well-informed semi-expert, who understands all the nuances of my league rules, injuries, etc., to hopefully make the pick best pick possible" kind of situation. In other words, if you expect to have a perfect roster at the end of your draft, you need to be present for your draft, and not rely on the draft tracker to make picks for you. Some specific situations when the Drat Tracker has been known to not pick good, or even pick at all, for leagues, include:
| 1. | If your league drafts early in the off-season, it may not have accumulated enough information to pick for your league. |
| 2. | If your league uses relatively less used positions (Off, ST, TMQB, TMPK, PN, TMPN, and to a certain extent, IDP positions [DL/DT/LB/CB/S]). |
| 3. | If your league has an extremely deep roster (say, 400 or more players on your fantasy rosters in total), it may not be able to pick players towards the end of the draft. |

| 8. | How do I prepare for a live auction on MyFantasyLeague.com? Answer:
Important Note: 2011 is the first season we're offering live auctions on MyFantasyLeague.com. We consider this brand new functionality "beta" quality now. That means it will hopefully work for many of our customers, but we definitely cannot, and do not, guarantee that it will work for you and your league-mates. We hope to get feedback from the folks that do use it so that we may improve it for 2012 and beyond. If you'd like to try out this new beta-level feature, feel free to, and be sure to let us know about your experiences. But, we strongly suggest that you have some sort of backup plan in place, so if you find that part-way through your auction it's not meeting your needs, you'll have a fall-back plan to implement.
So, you're considering running your "live auction" for drafting via the MyFantasyLeague.com web site? Great! Since your live auction is one of the most important parts of the season, it's essential that you do a little preparation for running your auction on-line, to make sure it goes as smoothly as possible. Therefore, we strongly encourage you read and understand all of the following potential "gotchas" related to running your live auction on the MyFantasyLeague.com site.
- First, determine if a MFL live on-line Auction is really what you want to do.
We recommend live auctions on MyFantasyLeague.com only for leagues that want to conduct an auction all at once, where the owners are geographically separated (i.e., not all together in the same room). If all owners are together in one room, or, you'd like to conduct your auction in a more "slow" email-type fashion, we do not recommend the use of the on-line live auction feature.
- Next, make sure your auction is set up properly.
- a. Set your league up to conduct an online Live Auction. Go to your For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup page - make sure that the "At the start of the season, rosters are determined by:" option is set to "On-line, Live Auction that happens all at once, taking a matter of hours to complete (BETA)."
- b. Define your Auction start time via the For Commissioners > Setup > Auction Setup > Auction Start Date/Time page.
- c. Go to your Setup > General Auction Setup page to define your parameters of your Live Auction. See the How do I use the General Auction Setup Screen for details on each parameter.
- Next, make sure all owners log into the live auction room to get a feel for exactly how this live auction will work.
This is probably the most important step of all - all owners need to at least experiment with the live auction pages a little bit before the start of your live auction to make sure that they don't have any problems accessing those pages from their computer, and get a general feel for how things work before your auction actually starts. Otherwise, you may well spend the first half-hour or more of your auction just making sure everyone is logged on properly, and understand what they need to do on the site.
- Finally, understand what to do in case of unexpected problems during your live auction.
For an important real-time event like a live auction, if things go wrong, they can snowball in a hurry. You need to be sure that even after you've done all of the above important steps, you consider the following.
- a. When the commissioner accesses the live auction screen, he can see 'Commissioner Controls' including:
- Pause Auction - use this to suspend the timer between auctions - for example, if you want to take a mid-auction break
- Resume Auction - use this item to resume a timer from the time that it was previously paused
- b. If someone starts a player or bids on an auction that you wish to undo, you can do that by going to the For Commissioners > Setup > Auction Setup > Delete Auction to clear the Auction.
- c. Sometimes, owners may have unanticipated computer problems, Internet connection problems, personal emergencies, etc. that cause the best laid plans to go to awry. Do you have a backup plan in place in case any unforeseen problems occur?
- d. If you have other problems that you can't immediately solve, please use the Help >Help Center option available from all league pages - that page goes over in detail all of the options you have available to you for getting further assistance for your auction problems.
In conclusion, we know that your live auction on the MyFantasyLeague.com site will be a great success, but to ensure it's success, you need to follow these important instructions above!
IMPORTANT NOTES
While it's possible to run a live auction without the league commissioner present in the live auction room, we strongly recommend that a league commissioner be present at all times for a live auction. The "Commissioner Controls" mentioned above are essential for recovering from problems that might happen during the course of a live auction - without a commissioner present, no one will be able to pause the auction timer, delete auctions, or any of the other sometimes necessary commissioner options mentioned above.
In some circumstances, all owners may have to use the "Refresh" button on their web browser to get an up-to-date live auction page. If any of the following events happens in your live auction, "Refreshing" your live auction page will bring it back up-to-date: commissioner changes the auction timer length on the "General Auction Setup" page, (or, anything else along these lines that causes the setup to change during the Live Auction).

| 9. | How can I conduct my auction on MyFantasyLeague.com? Answer: How should I Conduct my League Auction?
MyFantasyLeague.com offers three ways for your league to hold its preseason auction
- Online MyFantasyLeague.com-hosted email auction (taking days or weeks to complete)
- Online MyFantasyLeague.com-hosted Live Auction (taking hours to complete)
- Offline auction.
1. Online MyFantasyLeague.com Email Auction. This scenario involves using the MFL league site to directly hold your auction and is designed for auctions taking days or weeks to complete.
- Pros:
- - Owners can be geographically dispersed
- - Offers a quick, interactive way to hold your auction
- - Reduced risk of error
- - No need to manually record the winning bids twice
- - Supports all MFL positions, varied auction funds (per franchise), and proxy bids
- Cons:
- - Requires all (most) owners have access to the Internet
- - Not as efficient/intuitive for a quick auction taking hours to complete
2. Offline auction In this low-tech approach where all members are together for the auction, one person simply records all the winning- bids and the corresponding amounts. At the completion of the auction, the commissioner must use the For Commissioners > Setup > Load/Unload Rosters
screen to manually enter in each team's wining bids and (optionally) the For Commissioners > Setup > Enter Player Salaries/Contracts
screen to specify the corresponding bid amounts.
- Pros:
- - Draft can be held anywhere (no PC required)
- - No prep work necessary
- Cons:
- - Most manual labor required (double entry of winning bids)
- - Greatest risk of error
- - Requires all owners to meet at one location
3. Online MyFantasyLeague.com - Live Auction (BETA) This option is for leagues in which all the owners will be online and wish to conduct a Live Auction in a matter of hours.
Pros:
- Owners can be geographically dispersed
- Offers a quick, interactive way to hold your auction
- Reduced risk of error
- No need to manually record the winning bids twice
- Supports all MFL positions, varied auction funds (per franchise), and proxy bids
Cons:
- Requires owners have access to the Internet
Detailed Steps for an Online Email Auction using MyFantasyLeague.com
(Before the auction)
1. Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup screen to define the parameter "At the start of the season, rosters are determined by" to use the setting "On-line, email auction, taking several days/weeks to complete.
2. Define your auction start date & time using the For Commissioners > Auction Setup > Auction Start Date/Time Setup screen.
3. Go to the For Commissioners > Auction Setup > General Auction Setup screen to define initial auction parameters.
4. (Optionally) Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > Abilities Setup screen to enable owners the ability to place players up for auction.
(During the auction)
5. The commissioner (and optionally the other franchises) use the For Owners > Auction Bid
screen to place bids on players.
(After the auction)
6. There's nothing required to do after an online MFL auction as all the data is already defined for your league.
Detailed Steps for an Offline Auction
(Before the auction)
1. This is the simplest type of auction to prepare for as it really only requires something to record the picks with and some form of auction timer. This is typically designed for auctions taking a few hours to complete.
(During the auction)
2. Have owners on a rotating basis select a player to be auctioned. Complete one auction before moving on to the next.
(After the auction)
3. Go to the For Commissioners > Setup > General League Setup screen to define the parameter "At the start of the season, rosters are determined by" to use the setting "None of the above - commissioner will use the Load Rosters option to load franchise rosters."
4. Use the For Commissioners > Players And Rosters > Load/Unload Rosters screen to populate each franchise's roster
5. (Optionally) If your league carries over the winning auction bid amounts to be used as a player's initial salary for use in a salary cap league, enable the General League Setup option to "Track Player Salaries and/or Contracts" and then use the For Commissioners > Salary Cap Setup > Enter Player Salaries/Contract screen to define the starting salary for each auctioned player.

| 10. | How do I set up my fantasy playoffs? Answer: There are a variety of ways to define your league's fantasy playoffs. This 'How To' document will explain the solution for the most widely used playoff types
Common Types of Fantasy Playoffs
1. Head-to-Head, Single-Elimination.
This most common type of playoff setup uses brackets to define matchup pairs. Each week the winner (and any predefined bye teams) advance and the loser is removed from future championship matchups.
The setup for this style of playoffs, is performed using the Setup > General Playoff Setup screens.
(Option A)
Select A Packaged Playoff Bracket. Designed for leagues that can use one of the six pre-defined, common fantasy playoff brackets. Simply name the bracket & title of the champion, specify the starting week, and choose the number of teams involved. Once a packaged playoff bracket has been selected, you can later edit it on the General Playoff Setup (see option b below) screen.
Seed Playoff Teams. Once your playoff brackets have been defined AND your league's regular season has ended, you'll need to use this screen to define the seeds for each of the playoff brackets. Simply select each seed from the list of teams and assign accordingly. If your league has multiple brackets, the seed positions are independent from bracket to bracket and always start with seed #1. Furthermore, if the winners/losers of one or more brackets are then seeded into another bracket, you will need to use this screen once the 'preliminary' bracket has been completed (and the teams are known).
(Option B)
General Playoff Setup
. This screen will allow you to define up to ten separate playoff brackets for your league. While most leagues will only use one for playoffs and some will use another for a "toilet" bowl, it's also not uncommon for some leagues to use additional brackets to determine 3rd place, 5th place, etc. Although not necessary, some leagues have also defined separate brackets for each conference and one final bracket for the championship game.
Playoff Schedule Setup
. The next step in the playoff setup process is to define your matchups. For the first round, you'll be required to specify the specific seeds for each game. It's common to schedule the highest and lowest seeds like this: Seed #1 vs. Seed #4, Seed #2 vs. Seed #3. Of course, you are free to seed your teams as needed.
NOTE: If your league awards a first-round bye to one or more franchises, be sure to not schedule these teams in the first round.
You'll also need to define the teams that should play in each additional round through the championship.
NOTE: Some league require that the highest advancing seed plays against the lowest advancing seed each week. As these teams are not known until after the games for a given round have completed, you may be required to adjust matchups each week to ensure these seeds compete against one another.
Seed Playoff Teams
2. Head-to-Head, Multi-Week.
This style of playoffs is similar to the above single-elimination bracket, however, two teams play against one another for more than one week (typically two). The winner is determined by adding the scores for each franchise across the defined weeks. As in single-elimination, the loser is removed from future championship matchups.
Currently h2h multi-week playoffs are not automatically supported by the system. As a result, the simplest way to use this playoff format is to have each playoff owner submit their lineup and manually add up the point values across weeks as necessary. The Weekly Summary
report can be used as a good reference for each franchise weekly score.
3. Multi-Way Matchups.
In this scenario, three or more teams play in a given week and a subset advance to the next round. Like H2H multi-week, this style is not automatically supported. Also like H2H multi-week play, the best way to offer this is to have each playoff owner submit their lineup and use the Weekly Summary report to determine which team(s) advance. Only allow these advancing teams the ability to submit another lineup.
4. Total Points.
In total points playoffs, each franchise participant submits a weekly lineup for the duration of the playoffs. At the end of the playoff term, all weekly lineup scores are added together and the franchise with the most total playoff points declared the winner.
This playoff format is supported by having each playoff owner submit their lineups each week and manually add up the point values across weeks as necessary. The Weekly Summary
report can be used as a good reference for each franchise weekly score.
5. Combination.
While any combination of the above is possible, the most common approach is to use a head-to-head, single elimination (#1) with a total points (#3) system for playoffs.
To setup a combination playoff league, please see the individual setup requirements as detailed above.
NFL Playoffs: New League vs. Existing League
MyFantasyLeague.com offers free playoff league so existing customers can either extend their regular season league for their fantasy playoffs or choose to use a new playoff league altogether. Typically the decision is best made based on a few specific playoff league requirements. Please ask yourself the following questions regarding your playoff league:
1. Does my league's playoff keep the same rosters as in our regular-season league?
YES: It's much easier to simply extend your regular-season league's season through week 21. Go to Setup > General Scoring Setup
and change the 'Calculate Fantasy Results' option to run through week 21.
NO: You might want to copy your regular-season league to a new, playoff league. More information will be available in December.
2. Does my league's standings continue to accumulate through the NFL playoffs?
YES: You will need to continue using your regular season league. Go to Setup > General Scoring Setup
and change the 'Calculate Fantasy Results' option to run through week 21.
NO: You might want to copy your regular-season league to a new, playoff league. More information will be available in December.
NOTE: Weekly fantasy playoff points will always add to the regular season YTD total points calculation for each franchise.
NOTE: For NFL playoff leagues, use the Setup > Appearance Setup > Reports & Other Settings screen to enable the restricted display of playoff team players in all free agent lists.

| 11. | How do I set up the parameters in my NFL Playoff League? Answer: MyFantasyLeague.com - Free NFL Playoffs Leagues
Basic Setup of the NFL Playoff League:
- Like a regular season fantasy football league, the first step is to recruit a group of friends, co-workers, relatives, etc. You will then use the For Owners > Franchise Setup to add the owners names/email addresses to the league. Once you have added your franchises you can use the Setup > Invite Franchise Owners to send the owners an invitation and password to access the league.
- Most post-season leagues are total points only leagues, and don't have head-to-head matchups like a regular season. If, however, you wish to have H2H play you can change this feature on the Setup > General League Setup.
- Then, using the Setup > Weekly Schedule Setup you can define your matchups. Or, if you wish to run a bracketed playoff tournament you can use the Setup > Setup a Packaged Playoff System to define your brackets.
- Next, you will need to define the positions in your league. This is done on the Setup > Starting Lineup Setup.
- Like a regular season fantasy football league, you get to select your league scoring rules. To make it easy, you can choose one of our Select a Packaged Scoring System, or you can create your own customized set of rules using the Setup > Custom Scoring Setup.
Since the NFL Player pool is limited during the Playoffs, as teams are eliminated, many leagues wish to allow any player available to any team. In other words Peyton Manning could be on 2 teams in your league week 18. To account for this you will need to choose on the Setup > General League Setup to define:
Each Player can be on X Rosters per League.
How to Run your NFL Playoff League
Once you have set up the basic league parameters for your Playoffs you will need to determine how you what type of league you want to conduct. Below are the options for both Roster and Non-Roster Leagues during the playoffs.
Non-Roster Leagues
Most post-season fantasy football leagues are "contest-style" lineups, where you don't maintain a roster, but instead, can start any player once, and only once, throughout the NFL playoffs. The winner of the league is simply the franchise with the most total points after the Super Bowl. So, there's strategy in who you start when. If you think the Saints will lose in the first week of the playoffs, you could start Brees in the first playoff week. But, if you think they'll make it all of the way to the Super Bowl, you could hold off, and not start him until later in the post-season.
To set this up you will go to the Setup > General League Setup and choose:
Rosters are not used - instead, this league is a contest-type league, whereby an owner can any NFL Player 1 times per Season.
The most flexible style is the "free-for-all" format, where you and the rest of your league owners can select any player each week. Here again you do not have Rosters, but instead owners simply submit their lineup each week based on the entire NFL Playoff Player Pool.
To set this up you will go to the Setup > General League Setup and choose:
Rosters are not used - instead, this league is a contest-type league, whereby an owner can any NFL Player 4 times per Season.
Roster Leagues
One common format is to select or "draft" your roster before the start of the NFL playoffs, and keep the same players throughout. If/when an NFL team is eliminated, any players you have on that team will no longer score points for your fantasy team. So it pays to try to select the players that will play in the most games. Do you take a chance with players on the NFL wildcard teams because they have an extra game, or stick with the Superbowl favorites because they should be playing until the end?
To set this up you will go to the Setup > General League Setup and choose one of our drafting options:
- On-line, email draft, taking several days/weeks to complete.
- On-line, live draft that happens all at once, taking a matter of hours to complete.
- Live draft that happens all at once, taking a matter of hours to complete, using a draft program like FFLM
- None of the above - commissioner will use the Load/Unload Rosters option to load franchise rosters.
An alternative to having one draft and the same rosters for the playoffs is re-drafting each week. Here you will choose one of the above drafting options for your playoff league. Then you will need to re-set your draft each week of playoffs, after the previous week is complete. It will require you to clear the previous weeks draft and rosters to set up the following week.
Should you wish to re-draft your teams each week you will need to do the following steps before each new draft (but after the previous week's final results have run)
- Go to the Setup > Draft Start Date/Time and change your draft time for the upcoming draft.
- Go to the Setup > Revert Draft to clear your previous draft results by setting the draft to Round 1, Pick 1. You will also choose to drop the players from the Roster so that they are able to draft a new set of players.
- Resave the Setup > Draft Order Setup- All Rounds for your new draft.
If your league does not have time for a draft, or you have too many participants, you can use the option of Set 'em and Leave 'em. Here the owners will use the Waivers to add the players to their roster prior to week 18. Once week 18 has kicked off, no more waiver moves will be allowed and their roster will remain set for the rest of the playoffs.
To enable this option you will go to the Setup > General League Setup and choose:
- Set 'em and Leave 'em - all rostered player are starters, and the same lineup is used throughout the season.
Then, on the Setup > Waiver Rules Calendar Setup you can define the event:
First Come, First Served Waivers starts (now), ends Kickoff Week 18.
If you wish to have the Rosters Hidden you will need to go to the Setup > Reports & Other Settings to turn off the Roster Report from being displayed. This will also hide all transactions and prevent waiver emails from being sent.
NOTE: With any roster leagues the owners will need to submit their lineups each week of playoffs using the For Owners > Submit Lineup.
If the Total Roster Spots on the Setup > General League Setup is the same as the Total Number of Starters on the Setup > Starting Lineup Setup then the system will automatically submit the entire roster as the starters for the week.
